The Effort to Ratify our Tentative Agreement Begins this Weekend

Less than a week ago, our bargaining team reached Tentative Agreement with the State for our next contract.

It’s a contract that includes a three-year, 10% salary increase, and additional salary adjustments for more than 300 job classifications. We preserved our health care stipend, reduced the pre-funding of our retirement, and added or maintained dozens of skill-based and retention differentials, increases in uniform allowances, and other reimbursements … along with improvements in working conditions.

To become a contract, our Tentative Agreement (TA) must go through a number of steps in order to become law and the document that governs our working relationship with the state.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, our Statewide Bargaining Advisory Council (SBAC) will meet and vote to approve sending this Tentative Agreement out to the membership for ratification. The SBAC is comprised of more than 150 member-elected bargaining representatives from around the state. They’ve been reviewing each of hundreds of sections in the TA and will discuss, debate, and vote to approve or reject the TA.

If they approve the TA, ratification voting will take place Monday, August 28 through Friday, September 8. You’ll be able to learn more about ratification on Local 1000’s Contract Ratification Page.

If the membership votes to ratify the TA, it then moves to the Capitol to gain legislative approval and the Governor’s signature. Here’s a closer look at how our TA becomes law.
