Local 1000 Supports, Honors, and Celebrates Juneteenth
On Monday, June 20, 2022, the SEIU Local 1000 African-American Committee and SEIU Local 1000 workers statewide will celebrate Juneteenth for the second time as a U.S. federal holiday.* Commemorating the end of slavery, this day is an opportunity to reflect on the power of liberation that continues to animate the work of anti-racism in America today.
Women’s Empowerment Committee Invests in Member Health
The Women’s Empowerment Committee has led the fight for the issues that impact women at all levels of state service. As we fight for the rights of workers on the job, Tracie Kimbrough, chair of the Committee, is finding ways to bring women together to develop their careers, find respect in the workplace, and find opportunities to connect and relax during an arduous campaign.
Local 1000 Bargaining Team Holds Tight to our Proposal; Stays Focused on Member Needs
Bargaining has entered its final month, and the State has not provided serious commitments, through counteroffers or responses to proposals, that will have a meaningful impact on the lives of our members.
Our demands for a 30% pay raise, 100% paid health care premiums, and Special Salary Adjustments remain unanswered. Whether a planned tactic or otherwise, the State’s negotiators have spent months reviewing proposals, which are months where our members have struggled to pay bills, to take care of themselves and their families, and to provide the services California depends on.
