$4.5 mil Workforce Development Grant accelerates success, growth of Apprenticeship Program

For eight years, our SEIU Local 1000 Apprenticeship Program has been an exemplar of our Union’s principle of career development and upward mobility. A new, $4.5 million grant award will propel this groundbreaking program to a higher level of service.

The “High Road to Correctional Health Professions” grant award will expand the impact of our LVN-to-RN apprenticeships dramatically, offering new career training opportunities for as many as 500 participants in the current and soon-to-be developed curriculum.

Board of Directors meet to move Local 1000 forward

Our SEIU Local 1000 Board of Directors (BOD) held a meeting July 22-23, 2023, to continue their work in governing our Union during the fight for our contract. The 65-member board is elected to represent our wide geographic range and diverse classifications, comprising 51 District Labor Council (DLC) Presidents, 10 Bargaining Unit Chairs, and 4 Statewide Officers.

Local 1000 lets CalHR feel our pain

After months of negotiations, which saw a disinterested State bargaining team fail to address the issues state workers face in their workplaces, we have had enough. Our pickets, a part of our escalating campaign to drive more state workers to events, informational sessions, and strike schools, have brought hundreds of state workers to CalHR’s door to demand a real response to problems they know exist.

Get ready for Labor Day with Local 1000

Labor Day will be here before you know it, and there’s no better way to evoke the true spirit of the day than by celebrating with your fellow Union members and family.

Many of us celebrate Labor Day with festivities very similar to those outlined by the first proposal for a holiday. The prevailing thought was that the day should be observed with a street parade to exhibit “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations” of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families.
