New Apprenticeship Pathway Opens for Unit 15 Members

A group of nearly 20 Custodians working at DGS/Sacramento are working to advance their careers in state service as the first members taking part in the new Custodian-to-Office Administration Apprenticeship Program.

It’s a new pathway to upward mobility, the tenth apprentice program created by Local 1000. Our different groundbreaking programs have already graduated 125 members, while another 70 are in progress with their programs.

Contract Enforcement Wins Back Pay and Experience Credit for Member Working Out of Class

When one of our members—working in Sacramento at the Emergency Medical Services Authority—completed a 120-day out-of-class assignment, her increased duties were not removed by the department, and the expectations remained.

Our contract offers strict guidelines to protect our represented employees from working above their current classification without an increase in pay.

Member Protest, Arrests, Drive State Back to the Bargaining Table
Emergency rally shows the State we want a contract … now!

After State negotiators called a three-day “blackout” of bargaining activity earlier this week, a strong member protest in Sacramento Wednesday demonstrated our resolve to win a good contract and drove the State back to the table in just one day.

Standing up, standing together, is how we got the State to listen. It’s how we win.

While hundreds of members were on hand to make our demands visible, we were joined by leaders from unions across California, as well as community leaders and elected officials, all allies in the fight for a livable wage.
