On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, Unit 17 went back to the bargaining table in the latest stage of our ongoing battle to create a safe, equitable workplace and deliver job satisfaction for our 5300+ Registered Nurses across California.
“We presented two new proposals and signed 34 tentative agreements on numerous articles of hard-earned roll-over language that had been previously negotiated,” said Bob Mutebi, RN (CHCF) and Unit 17 BUNC member.
“We want a fair and transparent post and bid process for nurses,” said Dorrie Steadman, RN from RJ Donovan and a Unit 17 BUNC member. The Unit 17 bargaining team proposed an increase of bid positions to 100 percent and a continuous interim bid. Our bargaining team argued that better Post & Bid language will improve job satisfaction and help provide better patient care. “We’re trying to streamline the post and bid language that has been plaguing members and management alike over the years,” added Mr. Mutebi.
The team also proposed new language for full reimbursement of recertification fees.
In addition to Mr. Mutebi, the Unit 17 bargaining team includes Kim Cowart (Napa State Hospital), Vanessa Seastrong (Patton State Hospital), Tony Ziebart (Metro State Hospital) and Dorrie Steadman (RJ Donovan). The team will return to the bargaining table on Monday, August 5th for a joint side table with Unit 20 to discuss mandatory overtime and vacation scheduling.
