Our Unit 14 bargaining team went back to the table on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, and continued to sign tentative agreements with state negotiators that preserve protections and opportunities for our Unit 14 printers.

The state also submitted a counter-proposal to a Unit 14 proposal that would expedite the classification review study of the graphic design series down from 12 months to 6. This proposal was submitted because much of what our graphic designers do on a day-to-day basis is not reflected in their current official job duties or classification specifications. This means that the new skills our graphic designers are required to master to do their job may not be known, acknowledged or valued by the state. That needs to change, and the first step is with a thorough review of the graphic design class series.

Edward Page, Vice Chair of Unit 14 explained, “Our graphic designers are designing drones, doing 3D printing, web design, and performing IT functions. We need to capture that and make sure their class specs reflect the skills it takes to perform all of the innovative work they’re doing.”

Page is asking Unit 14 designers to reach out to the bargaining team with any questions, get plugged into worksite actions, and show up at the Local 1000 Capitol Mall Rally. “In order to get our proposals across the finish line we need everyone to get active and be at the rally on August 13th.”
