Your Unit 14 bargaining team returned to contract negotiations today and took on a number of issues to defend and improve upward mobility and bargaining unit work.

Throughout negotiations, we have been educating the state on the need for career mobility for the Printing Trades Specialist Trainee classification that currently has no possibility for advancement. Today we gave the state our proposal that would provide mobility out of this position and phase out the position. The state agreed that this is a problem and we expect them to work with us toward a final agreement on this issue.

In a move offensive to our unit members, the state gave us a proposal that would take away our hard won contract language that makes sure overtime is awarded fairly, recognizes seniority, and goes to the appropriate classification. The state’s excuse for the takeaway attempt was that they need more flexibility to cover overtime shifts. We took a break to prepare a thorough response, which we then presented to them along with our verbal rejection.

We pointed out they have plenty of alternate resources to address the problem, and we are awaiting a response from the state.

Rally for Our Contract on June 8!

Local 1000 members from all over the state will rally at the State Capitol on June 8 to show the governor and the legislature that we’re fighting for a great contract. We’re uniting with one voice and one goal: a great contract that includes a pay raise, creates more professional development, improves working conditions and ensures healthy and safe workplaces.

The rally will be held on the west steps of that capitol starting at 11am and food will be provided.  Join us to show the state that this is Our Union, Our Contract, Our Future!
