Your bargaining team recently negotiated changes to the bereavement leave provisions in the MOU. These changes allow hourly employees more flexibility in how they use bereavement leave. Going forward, hourly employees may use bereavement leave in partial-day increments. Employees on alternate work schedules can also use bereavement leave in increments of more than eight hours if they need to use bereavement leave on a day on which they are scheduled to work more than eight hours.
These changes are not retroactive but apply to any use of bereavement leave occurring after May 23, 2023. The letter of understanding also clarifies the existing practice of allowing part-time employees to use a prorated amount of bereavement leave, as with other types of paid leave.
