Labor Day will be here before you know it, and there’s no better way to evoke the true spirit of the day than by celebrating with your fellow Union members and family.
Many of us celebrate Labor Day with festivities very similar to those outlined by the first proposal for a holiday. The prevailing thought was that the day should be observed with a street parade to exhibit “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations” of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families.

As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And so, since the first Labor Day celebration in New York City in 1882, the holiday has remained much the same.
This year, the Sacramento Central Labor Council will once again be presenting a Labor Day Picnic in the Park on Monday, September 4, from 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Fairytale Town, 3901 Land Park Drive in Sacramento. The festivities include a free BBQ supper, a beer garden, and live music.
Local 1000 workers are encouraged to bring their family and favorite food — along with your sunblock and lawn chairs — and enjoy an evening of outdoor fun and relaxation at Fairytale Town Park.
In the coming weeks we’ll be adding additional Labor Day events being held throughout the state, so keep checking our site for updates. And for more information regarding the Fairytale Town Picnic, visit https://sacramentoclc.regfox.com/2023-labor-day-picnic
