This weekend, your elected leadership will come together for a three-day meeting of the Local 1000 Board of Directors. It’s our last meeting of the year, and we have an aggressive agenda intended to build upon the momentum and progress we’ve already achieved.
We have bold goals for 2024, and we’re continuing to build a unified vision for the days, months, and years ahead. The statewide officers and the Board will share ideas about the work we do as Local 1000. We’re putting more detail into the evolutionary changes in our Union the board adopted earlier this year.
Those changes are exciting, and include a new governance structure that’s designed to be more responsive to the needs of our members.
We’ll work at this weekend’s meeting to create engagement and urgency in support of 2026 contract negotiations. The contract we just won expires in less than 1000 days, and now’s the time to start the effort for an even better contract.
Our directors will discuss the operational issues of Local 1000, too. Chief among them, we’ll review 2023’s financial performance, and we’ll pass a balanced 2024 budget that demonstrates responsible spending of your hard-earned member dues. We’ll also talk about the renovation project of our one-story building at the Sacramento headquarters complex. And, the board will hear and discuss motions that help shape our Union’s policies and procedures moving forward.
It’s an exciting time for Local 1000. The members of the Board are stepping into their leadership, and we will continue build consensus among the board as we work together for our members.
In solidarity,
William (Bill) Hall
Board Chair, SEIU Local 1000
