Safe workplaces for our represented employees are a hard-earned right and protecting those rights are a Local 1000 priority. After member Sherice Parker experienced a bullying and hostile manager, she called on her Union for help … and won her grievance.

Parker experienced a repeatedly toxic environment with her supervisor, particularly during one-on-one meetings. In her 17 years at the State Controller’s office, she’s worked with 12 different managers, and “all were professional except my current one.” She’s “always been a person to go with the flow and make the best of my work environment, but enough was enough of my current manager’s work ethic and actions.”

“I really appreciated how my issue was handled. I was a little nervous that my case would not move forward or it would not be acknowledged. The right questions were asked, I got great advice, and I was able to explain my situation in detail, which was helpful. Local 1000 did a great job with challenging the upper managers to investigate and to not sweep the issue under the rug. And importantly, they acknowledged they were wrong. This is a big win.”

Sherise Parker used our contract article 10.21, Workplace Violence and Bullying Prevention Program, to stand up for her rights. You can learn more about your contact using our mobile-friendly, fully-searchable contract search tool at contract.seiu1000.org
