160 families and 400 kids enjoyed a holiday meal, gifts, and more, thanks to the efforts of the Sacramento Central Labor Council (CLC) and members and staff of Local 1000. 23 of those families served by Operation Christmas Basket were part of our Local 1000 family.
“We are a union community,” said Anica Walls, Vice President for Organizing and Representation. “It’s not easy to ask for help during these times but engaging in projects like this are reminders that we’re always here to help.”

Our members helped coordinate with the Central Labor Council and submitted referrals of families who needed help this season. Our team of volunteers, both staff and members, delivered the donations to the families.
“This year, we delivered toys, boxes of food, and turkeys for families in need, in some cases, dropping them off at union homes,” said Walls.
The CLC Operation Christmas Basket drive occurs every year to help families in need. Next December, the program starts for 2024, beginning with referrals for families in need and recruiting volunteers to help distribute the gifts.
“We do this work for so many reasons, but it’s so rewarding to see families open their doors and how happy their children are,” said Walls. “It’s important for us that the union is able to step up for them.”
