Time off for Victims of Domestic ViolenceAddendum 1Your union contract contains hundreds of provisions designed to protect your rights. Addendum 1 defines the right to time off for victims of domestic violence. Your Local 1000 contract guarantees:
- Employees can take time off to seek medical attention for injuries caused by domestic violence or to obtain psychological counseling for domestic violence.
- Employees can take time off to obtain services from a domestic violence shelter, domestic violence program, or rape crisis center or to participate in planning programs to increase safety from future domestic violence.
- Employees must give reasonable advance notice of time off unless advance notice is not feasible.
- Employees may use vacation, personal leave or other compensating time off that is available.
An employee whose rights are violated under this addendum is entitled to lost wages and reinstatement.
How to take ActionContact your Local 1000 steward if your rights have been violated. Your steward will work with you, management and your contract to determine the best course of action.
