SEIU Local 1000 Elections Process

SEIU Local 1000 election process provides the cornerstone of our democratically elected union leadership. Voting is by secret ballot, ballots are sent to all members' homes, and return postage is paid. The ballot count is open and observable by candidates and members. Administration of the election is provided by Safeguard Web and Graphics and the ballot count will be conducted by Martin and Chapman, Inc. - both are certified by the Secretary of State and both currently handle the PERS Board elections.

Daily reports are posted of the total number of ballots received by each DLC. The final results of the ballot count will be posted on this website at the end of the day, April 13, 2012.

Who Votes?

SEIU Local 1000 members in good standing receive a ballot for the statewide SEIU International delegates. This is a statewide ballot.
In those instances where a DLC General Council Delegate Election is held, every member in that DLC also receives a separate DLC ballot to vote for their respective delegates.

The Election Committee met on April 12, 2012 and approved the following guidelines:

Invalid ballots include:

  • The ballot arrives after the deadline.
  • The sender is no longer a member in good standing.
  • Two ballots are received from the same person, thus invalidating the first ballot received.
  • The return envelope has no signature.
  • Removal of any identifier from the envelop invalidates the ballot as there is no way to determine whether or not the ballot is a replacement or an original ballot.
  • Voting for more than the identified number of candidates as indicated on the ballot card.
  • No personal delivery of ballots.  Our policy file requires that ballots must be received at the election office, 1321 Howe Avenue, Ste. 200, Sacramento, CA. 95825 through the U.S. Postal Service by 5:00 P.M., Friday, April 13, 2012.
