'We are California'

june30_rally_crowd.jpgNearly 8,000 state workers joined together in a June 30 rally to support state services and the workers who provide them.

"We provide important, vital state services to Californians on a daily basis without any fanfare or attention," Local 1000 President Yvonne Walker told reporters. "Today we are getting out the word that we are your neighbors, we are active participants in your communities, and we are California."
The climax of a rally came when Walker and several thousand state workers simultaneously pledged to work to elect a new governor and legislators who value state workers.

Local 1000 pledge

I pledge to elect a governor who respects state workers and supports the essential services we provide.

I pledge to help in the General Election to help elect a two-thirds legislative majority that understands the work I do and will support the program I deliver.

I pledge to stand in solidarity, with all Local 1000 members as we build a new and different kind of union.

I pledge to build a California that works for all Californians because ... together "We are California."
